Mad about plaid and retro goodies? Check this shop out

Looking to celebrate Detroit or say yes to Michigan?

Then, Peninsulas — complete with a giant moose head on the wall and plenty of plaid — is your place.

Decorated — in a good way — with furniture you might find in your granddad's hunting cabin and filled with an assortment of throwback T-shirts, pins and posters, plus vintage-looking glasses, water bottles and other home goods, the selection is more varied than what's sold at most stores specializing in local memorabilia.

And the retro look is fun.

Peninsulas was an online-only retailer before it opened its first brick and mortar location a few months ago in downtown Berkley.

In addition to products by Peninsulas, you'll find hats and clothing from Stormy Kromer, wooden blocks from Uncle Goose and bamboo cutting boards shaped like Michigan made by AHeirloom. (The cutting board includes the state's upper AND lower peninsulas — something about which Peninsulas owners, Royal Oak couple Robert, 45, and Sherri Jameson, 48, are adamant.)

Prices start at $1 for a postcard and $1.50 for a retro-looking pin and go up from there. T-shirts start at $27, water bottles bearing Detroit's seal or that of the State of Michigan are $30 and a pretty fabulous wool blend cape by Stormy Kromer is $150.

Peninsulas is at 3125 Twelve Mile, Berkley.
