Experience the Best of Berkley
The best part of moving our Peninsulas store five doors west in beautiful, downtown Berkley? We get to keep our AWESOME neighbors. From the moment we opened Peninsulas’ store in 2016, these folks rolled out the welcome mat. They made us feel at home. And they continue to offer hospitality that only comes from hometown, small-business owners who truly care about their community and clientele.
So, the next time you’re looking for a unique shopping experience with a retro/metro feel, head to Berkley. You’ll find yourself in some of the Detroit area’s best small businesses for food, fashion, gifts, entertainment and so much more.
Food, Glorious Food
The Lunch Café
3116 Twelve Mile
For example, the Peninsulas crew has made The Lunch Café a second home. Kylie says, “I eat here almost every day. It’s one of my favorite places in Berkley! The service is always wonderful and the food is even better!” Robin can’t get enough of their tuna salad, Turkey Grill and amazing, from-scratch soups like macaroni and cheese.
2959 Twelve Mile
Kylie is also an ardent fan of Coco Fairfield’s, serving up delicious breakfast and lunch entrees. “I love their cornbread waffles! It always fills my belly with warm and fuzzy feelings!!” Coco’s has something to satisfy your healthy or naughty appetite.
The Neighbor’s Shoppe
2833 Twelve Mile
The Neighbor’s Shoppe is in a storefront that’s peddled food and adult beverages for decades now. Jackie says, “They have such friendly staff and delicious cookies, too!”
3087 Twelve Mile
Rachel says Berkley Common is “a great place to stop in for dinner and drinks. They have a delicious menu and their talented bartenders mix fun, tasty cocktails.” Sherri appreciates their generous selection of dark beers – on tap – as well as their uncommonly good Crispy Brussel Sprouts. (See? We can eat healthy!)
3127 Twelve Mile
Jackie hangs out at Mongers’ Provisions as well. “I absolutely love the gelato and enjoy their tiny pickles!” We love their awe-inspiring cheese and charcuterie boards, too. (Are you sensing a foodie theme here? What can we say? We have good taste.)
Fashion Forward … and Back
Berkley Chop Shop
2980 Twelve Mile
Jay at the Berkley Chop Shop has been cutting Peninsulas Co-owner Robert’s hair for more than a decade. A Berkley fixture since 2005, these skilled folks cater to all sizes and walks of life, specializing in chop tops, custom cuts, paint jobs and pin striping. Vroom, vroom!
2965 Twelve Mile, Suite 200
When it comes to vintage t-shirts, apparel and accessories, it doesn’t get much better than Reware Vintage. Kylie tells us, “They have the cutest earrings (think upcycled records) and a great selection of vintage!!” Their mostly-handmade gifts are inspired by music and pop culture. In other words, it’s the slaps.
Sum Girls Boutique
3015 Twelve Mile
For upscale resale, and new apparel and accessories, Maggie relies on Sum Girls Boutique. “Robyn, who works there, is super friendly and helpful to all the customers! They have something (or is that SUM-thing?) for everyone and are always getting new arrivals for all events!”
Gifts And More
Vitrine Gallery & Gifts
2758 Coolidge Hwy, right around the corner
When you think of Vitrine Gallery & Gifts, think boutique-yet-affordable clothing lines, vegan handbags, fair trade goods and luxurious spa items. Robin says, “I love their jewelry. One of my favorite pair of earrings is from there. Such unique, fun pieces!”
3117 Twelve Mile
Our longtime neighbors at Catching Fireflies are the Queens of Whimsy. They carry gifts for everyone, kitchen and barware, home goods, clothing/accessories, paper goods and candy. You name it! Jackie says they have a “great selection of local artisan items for gifting!”
Yellow Door Art Market
3141 Twelve Mile
You’ll also want to stop by the Yellow Door Art Market. Think local art fair with a roof and HVAC. Maggie has been shopping there for friends’ gifts for years. “This is the perfect place to find Michigan-made products. I love their jewelry and that they sell products from local vendors.”
Gate Keeper Games
3961 Twelve Mile
Take fantasy and fun seriously at Gate Keeper Games, where they sell role-playing, card and board games, plus host Trivia Nights at their new bar. Maggie says, “Staff members are super welcoming to everyone they come across. They have a wide variety of products and they host events for players.”
