Your 2026 Tunnel of Trees adventure starts here! Yes, there have been washouts and road closures, but don't let that stop you from enjoying one of Michigan's most iconic drives. With just a few extra turns and our suggested scenic route, you can still support local businesses, take in the incredible scenery, and enjoy everything that makes this stretch of Northern Michigan so special.
Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, a day trip, or your annual drive Up North, you'll experience nearly everything you've always loved about the Tunnel of Trees—and you may even discover a few places you've never visited before.

The Suggested Route
Rather than simply showing the quickest way around the closures, we've put together a suggested route that highlights many of the places that make this area special.
Along the way, you'll pass local shops, restaurants, farms, studios, scenic overlooks, and other favorite stops. It's a drive designed to help you enjoy the journey—not just get around the closures.
What Can You Still See?
Almost everything people come to experience is still here.
You can still:
- Drive the Tunnel of Trees along Lake Michigan
- Visit Good Hart and Cross Village
- Dine at Legs Inn
- Browse local shops, galleries, and studios
- Visit area farms and roadside markets
- Enjoy beaches, scenic overlooks, and Lake Michigan sunsets
- Experience one of Michigan's most beautiful scenic drives

Visiting Cross Village
Summer in Cross Village is much the same as it has always been.
Families stop for lunch overlooking Lake Michigan, browse local shops, and spend long evenings watching the sunset over the water. Visitors discover new favorite places, enjoy the slower pace, and experience the charm that has made this little village a destination for generations.
The route may look a little different this year, but the experience hasn't changed.
